Money in Marriage Essay

Money is a vital component for a sustainable and harmony life. Knowing the main function of money in marriage is important for a successful marriage. According to (Loh,2012) a research by Smart Money magazine, cited by shows that 70% of spouses surveyed discuss about money no less than one weekly while 36% of men and 40% of women confess that they lied to their couple about their spending. Many couples do not aware about the importance of money. The ability to pay household and utility bills, the tendency to ensure the children get their rights as well as the chance to have a comfortable and sustainable living are therefore, the importance of money in marriage. One of the reasons why money is important in marriage is to pay household and utility bills. Just like how organizations have their organization’s financial details each year to trace how they spend their money to pay for things married couples also need to record their expenditure and examined them monthly. (Eugene, 2009). A couples need to distribute their money to pay the energy, electrical and telecommunication bills. Electricity is necessary to run all home utilities such as refrigerator, television, radio, including hot water heaters and water pump that allow toilet to work. Besides electrical bills a telecommunication bills also need to be managed well so that we can ensure smooth communication between a family members. The example of communication utilities is such as encompass telephone, satellite television service and Internet service. For instance communication utilities such as internet can be used by the family members especially children who are still study to find information, communicate with their friend, and sharing their opinion. A married couple also need to allocate their money for the household food budget. The monthly budget for the food and groceries of the house should be managed accurately. â€Å"It is significant to give them with a healthy-balanced diet and encourage them to work out frequently† (Vijaindren, 2012). Parents should aware that your child needs a variety of food to fuel his growth, strengthen his immune system and support his brain and nervous system. So it can be conclude that money is important in marriage to have a healthy lifestyle because an apple a day can keep a doctor away. Another importance of money in marriage is to ensure children get their rights. A beneficial education is a necessary for children (Rosmah, 2010). Every child should have an adequate education to secure their future. Money can be used to pay necessary fees regarding the education or study. For example, money can be used to pay an education fees for children who studying at primary, secondary or even children at the college. As an example, money is useful for buying a basic need for children education such as school uniform, stationeries, and of course a books. Every child deserved an additional education such as home tutor or tuition. With money, tuition fees and additional books can be paid consistently. According to Rosmah (2010, as cited in Lim (2010) a marriage that has consistency in money should give their children a well-nourished life. Every parent can make their children more valuable and comfortable with money. For example provide a comfortable shelter such as personal room for their uses. Furthermore with money parents will have the tendency to ensure that children get their rights. As an example, children nowadays will request for an up-to-date gadgets, such as smart phone, tablet, or even an android phone. This can be fulfilled with money. Thus, money is important not only for an adult, but can be very useful for a sustainable in children’s life. One of the other reasons why money is important in marriage is to have comfortable and sustainable life. Najib(2012, as cited in Shuman, 2012) â€Å"My feverent wish is to ensure that each and every one of our young productive adults and, indeed the future generation of Malaysian will have enough savings and financial assets to enjoy their retirement to the fullest†. This pension scheme is one of the ways to have a sustainable life. Many of young married couple do not aware about the importance of this pension scheme it is to persuade and influence people to set aside money for the upcoming and urgent situation. For instance one of the family members having any major health problem such as cancer or heart problem that need to spend a lot of money to heal at least this scheme can support it. Another importance of money is to keep away the future cohort to cope with difficulty and struggle to have a sustainable and comfortable life. Life insurance gives a person chance to propose a consistent financial for his or her family in the event of disaster or poor health problem happen to the family members (Morris, 2010). With the power of money a couple can buy a life insurance for their house, vehicle and family member. For example when a giant Tsunami hits Japan on 2012 many facilities and infrastructure has been demolished, at the same time many victim had lost their family members. So the reason why you need to take out an insurance policy is to look after who’s left behind you especially the ones that you loved. In a nutshell, the importance of money in marriage include chance to have a comfortable and sustainable life, the tendency to ensure the children get their rights as well as the ability to pay household and utility bills. Money is vital asset that are useful for a long time, and can secure the future. Thus, money must be managed well to ensure that the flow of money will run smoothly and can lead to a sustainable life and harmony marriage. Everyone must have their own budget so we can prepare for the unpredictable thing that may occur. Tracking your money expenses, create a monthly budget, prepare for unexpected emergencies, and plan for big expenses are few steps that can be made to managed money well. This can educate a person to become a discipline and independent in his life.

Mayella Ewell is a dichotomous person because she is like any other girl that wants to fit in. The one that wants to be something she’s not. She wants to be beautiful, accepted, have friends. She is tired of people thinking she’s dirty or feeling unwanted, like an outsider. She’s alone in a big room of people and cannot take it anymore. The first reason why she is a dichotomous character is she wanted to be accepted, but she can’t because she is unwanted by many people in Maycomb because of her last name, Ewell. The last name, Ewell is known by the people of Maycomb because the Ewell’s are sloppy and dirty and do not care about anything. So just because she’s a Ewell people judge her as dirty and poor, when really she tries to fit in with everyone by cleaning up her appearance and growing flowers. Then, here she goes not know what the word, â€Å"friend† even means. She only had one friend which was Tom Robinson, but she betrays him by lying to everyone in Maycomb saying he beat her up, when really it was her dad. She does this because she would rather save her abusive father than saving an innocent black man’s life, even if he was nicer than her father. Just these two comparisons do not tell you why she is a dichotomous character, the last one is very important because she pretty much shows you the main reason why she brayed Tom Robinson. She has this big, careless family that everyone in Maycomb doesn’t care for and her she is alone in her own family of nine people. They do not care for her, but she cares for her dad and younger siblings by giving them money for ice cream. No one feels her pain except her, and with that pain what makes you think she wouldn’t have two different personalities.

The report would cover why universal studio is able to do so and their unique features attracting the both tourist and local into investing it. How they are better than their competitors (escape theme park) or how are they in a way inferior to their competitor using the swot analysis. How is there a raise in the tourism in Singapore due to the universal studio. Understanding how universal studio is being established and their importance in bringing revenue to Singapore market and helping in the raise of tourism. The report would be based on my first hand observation in how the universal studio works and came to it success on my first hand observation, making a visit to the universal studio trip myself and feel in the perspective of the tourist and local why is the place worth going and investing in by going there. Approaching my friends who had been there for their reviews regarding universal studio and how do they feel about the place for a better understanding other than my own bias view or doing a survey on how they people feel about universal studio. Interview my friend who is working there to have a clearer picture of universal studio and what they does their daily routines contains of maintaining the flow of the people every day. What is a universal studio? Universal studio is a theme park built to raise tourism in Singapore. The theme park is located at Sentosa within Resort World Sentosa. Genting group was the one bidding to build a second integrated resort in Singapore. On 19 April 2007, the start of building the Resort World Sentosa ( RWS ) was commence. After few years of construction and the park was then opened to public at 18 March 2010 recently. The universal studio brings about lots of wonderful attractions bringing 24 movies themed rides and attractions experiencing new rides and shows based on blockbuster hits. It is both locally and tourist enticing place for Singapore to build upon. History of Universal studio Genting group was the investor that came to bid successfully upon building integrated resorts in Singapore located at Sentosa. Commence of building the RWS and universal studio starts on 19 April 2007. The park was finally opened on 18 March 2010 upon three years of construction. The park was opened for sneak preview during the Chinese New Year period to promote and let the people know about the place and great place to spend for the special occasion. Sneak preview week started on 14 to 21 February 2010 from 5pm to 9pm every night. The park was opened for sightseeing purposes as none of the rides is operational which serves the purposes of promoting and tempt the people to see how great and wonderful the place was to be spread around anticipating the official open of universal studio and invest upon the place. Visitors have to pay 10 dollars only to goes in the visit the long awaited universal studio. Also, team members are allowed to bring their families to visit the park before the public are allowed to do so. After the official opening, some of the attractions would be opening later at a different timing due to unfinished construction and safety of the people. The largest roller coaster has been hailed due to the safety and problems they encountered when the ride is opened. Achievements of universal studio Universal studio has brought about some attractions and rides which is available in other countries and brought it back to Singapore for the locals. Local people are able to enjoy the attraction which can be found in other countries locally. Each ticket would cost about 62 dollars for weekdays and 72 dollars for weekend for adult pass. With such a costly ticket it will certainly bring more income for Singapore. The place consists of 30 restaurants inclusive of food push carts and 20 unique retail stores located all over the park. 7 zones of movie themed world and 22 attractions have been designed. Not only are they able to access the Universal studio, they are able to venture into the sentosa island which also serves the purpose for tourist attraction. It has brought the best movie themed attractions packed within the seven zones to life. Attracting locally and tourist into the dazzled place packed with fantasy for and both children and adults where they have been wishing for. It has brought about entertainment to people and turning moments to lasting memories of people who visited there. There would be themed hotels available to cater the needs of people and their choice of preference. It has successfully brought Singapore a unique theme park which is the only one found in Singapore. Aims of Universal Studio It has successfully brought Singapore a unique theme park attracting lots of tourist and locals to visit it. Their aims for market are to bring tourism and economical of Singapore to a greater heights. It is to maintain quality service and entertainment to those who visited it for lasting memories. Hoping they would be back to visit the place again on their next trip back to Singapore. What is so unique about Universal studio? The unique points about universal studio is the 7 zones of movie themed world which has brought movies characters alive giving visitors memorable visit and trip making to money paid worthwhile. The 7 zones of themed world consist of The Lost World, Far Far Away, Madagascar, Ancient Egypt, Sci Fi City, Hollywood and New York. All these places are built upon the movies themed and blockbuster hits. The place constructed is based on the movies featuring characters appearances, shopping and dining areas bringing the movie to life. Firstly, The Lost World is divided into two areas Jurassic Park and Waterworld. Featuring both two movie blockbuster hits which are popular among the people. The Lost World helps people to get to know more about dinosaurs and seeing the movies coming alive before their eyes. There are rides featuring the perspective of dinosaurs and how it is like to be surrounded with dinosaurs. Rides which consist of the bird eye view of the place, and some thrilling river raft ride ensuring us to be soaking wet at the of the ride. Waterworld is a water based attractions where we can get to see stunts, amazing explosion live in the water show. Far Far Away land is a movie themed place inspired by dreamwork animations mainly featuring Shrek and the rich fairy tales life. Knowing the characters that living within the fairy tale walls coming to life. Shrek house was being build and there is Shrek 4D featuring a short and realistic movie where we can actually feel the action right from the seat in their short fairy tale adventure. Junior roller coaster is available to for riding too. Madagascar is also one of the dreamwork animation inspired theme zones where it features the dense tropical filled with wonderful characters of Madagascar in the movies. There is a merry go round where we can ride it to be feel like surrounding the Madagascar character and once again be like a child. Unfortunately not all the rides is opened there which will bring people to goes back next time when it is opened so as not to miss any wonderful attractions there. Ancient Egypt is a place featuring ancient pyramids and archaeologist site appearing in movies like the mummy similar to it. Roller coaster is the most exciting rides in the universal studio aside from the huge roller coaster which is not functioning till further notice. It allows us to feel the fire and actually knowing more of ancient pyramids. Sci Fi City is a place featuring the modern place of people where future place would look like base on our high technology nowadays. It is also where the two major roller coasters situated at. It is just basically for sightseeing purposes since most of the attractions are closed due to safety issues. Hollywood is a themed place which features the Hollywood boulevard where dynamic architecture, palm trees and walk of the fame. It features shows like where universal monsters in a rock and roll musical performances bring joy to visitors. It is also the place where most of the shopping can be done. Many iconic Hollywood boulevard. New York is a place where the sidewalks and classic landmarks are being featured. There are facade set of movie scenes for real time movie productions. Where there are attractions that showed us how the movie is being produced and how tedious the actual filming would be bringing a spectacular effect for the movie screen. Thus, all the 7 zones and attractions made up of universal studio make it uniquely special and the only theme park found in Singapore. Difficulties faced Due to the technical problems, some might feel that the park is not up to expectations. The major rides are not operational till further notice might be turning some visitors down into visiting the place for the time being. Not all attractions are opened which states coming soon. Thus, some might want to wait for awhile when everything is working to make the trip and money worthwhile instead, paying 5 dollars for after hours to go in for some sightseeing. Furthermore, the ticket might not be available on the spot as there is limited admission visitors need to book in advance through internet. Some might not want to go about the fuss booking the ticket and stuffs. Threats Economic downturns and recession when it happens, will negatively affect USS in a big way, since traveling and spending will drop due to such poor economic condition. New players and neighbouring countries will try to copy the success of the Integrated Resort concept and develop their casinos, theme-parks, hotels. All these will present a threat to USS as visitors are drawn away from it. Competitor ( Escape theme park ) Escape theme park is an outdoor park located at Downtown East, Pasir Ris. It is not a theme park where fairy tales came alive like universal studio. But a normal park consisting of families and thrills rides catering for all ages. But the park is only available on Saturday, Sunday, primary and secondary and public holidays unlike Universal studio which opens daily. It is catered more for locals as the going to the place is a bit troublesome due to have to change bus going down there. Many tourists might not know how to get there. But universal studio is much simpler due to the monorail services. Also, the operation days falls on weekends and public holidays which make lesser tourist visiting it as they are not able to go in the theme park during weekdays as weekends might be packed and there might be a lot of queues for the rides. Surveys results Due to the rejection of my email to conduct my interview for universal studio, i decided to conduct a survey on universal studio to ask them about their views to have non bias and a clearer perception of the theme park. Knowing how it actually attract the people there and why universal studio is able to bring a greater heights in both tourism and economically. There are a total of 6 questions being asked where. Firstly, do you think that it is worth the money going to Universal studio? The objective of this question asked is to see the result if how many people think that a costly admission ticket of universal studio is worth taking a trip down to. Thus, if many agree with it, it means to say that universal studio has successfully captured the attention of people thinking of going there and the admission ticket is valued for money, and worth the price for going there to visit. Through the survey, i have concluded that a majority of the people do feel that it is worth the money going down to the Universal Studio Singapore. Whereas on the other hand, some find that it may not be worth it. Secondly, if money is not a factor would you visit universal studio for once? The objective of the question is to assume if the admission ticket is affordable for everyone, are they willing to spend their time visiting the place for at least once. The survey result obtained is most people would certainly go to the place if money is not an issue to them. Thirdly, what do you think of the service of universal studio? The objective of the question is to ask about the service they provided is it was satisfying to bring a good reputation to the tourist and locals to make them visit the place again. Majority of the people voted for average. Which means that the service provided have rooms for improvements thus, bringing greater income for Singapore. Fourthly, for those who had visited universal studio what is your comment about? The objective of the question is to ask those people who had visited there to talk about their view of it and impression of Universal studio have left for them. Some of the people had great reviews about universal studio and said that they would visit the place again. Due to their great ambience and atmosphere it had created, it is worth the trip down the place. There is several different themes all found n one place. But some said that it was not really up to standards, as not all rides are operational. Thus, it became a disappointment to them as they are not able to ride all when the admission ticket is costly. Thus, they should have the responsible to ensure all rides are operational before opening. There is also a comparison between Singapore universal studio and other countries. Singapore one was small as compared to others hence little rides s available. But the effort is still there for making the only several themed theme park found in Singapore. Fifth, for those who did not go Universal studio before what are your views about the place? The objectives of asking the question is asking about what impression does Universal studio brings them. To test if they would ever wanted to visit it. Most of them have said that the impression that the universal studio brought was expensive and glamorous. It is a fun and exciting place to go but definitely a price to pay. It is a place where cartoons and fairytale came alive, a different theme park found in Singapore. It seems to be made a tourist attraction and point. But the price is still a bit high and has to consider as there might be crowds whereby one could not be able to finish all the rides in one day as the park stops operating at 7. But more choose to go there once after it is fully operational to make the money paid worthwhile. Lastly, how would rate universal studio? The objective of the question is to ask if after all Universal Studio is worth the money and time to go. A lot had chosen that it is average and it depends if they want to go a not due to money factor and facilities of the park. Coming up next is up to expectations and worth going. Conclusion Based on my first hand observation of the universal studio, USS has been successful in appealing to the general public as well as tourists. It has been contributing a significant amount of revenue towards Singapores economy through the tourism sector since its first launch. It basically appeals to a wide market segment and thus that is one of the reasons for its success. I personally find that through such world-renowned tourists attractions, Singapores economy will be impacted in a positive way for many years to come. Seasonal tourism in Azerbaijan: Patterns and effects Seasonal tourism in Azerbaijan: Patterns and effects The main purpose of this thesis is to embark on seasonality research in Azerbaijan, which has been neglected due to several reasons, for example, lack of sufficient data and interest from the industry. The lack of prior studies regarding seasonality in Azerbaijan furnishes originality to this thesis. The research seeks to find out seasonality patterns in Baku, the causes and effects of seasonality and possible actions against it. It must be also noted that Azerbaijan is at the beginning of tourism development and seasonal patterns are likely to change over the years thanks to huge investments and far-reaching changes. 5.1 General findings In order to prepare theoretical foundations of the research, a wide-ranging literature review has been performed. Main causes of seasonality – natural, institutional and other factors were elucidated. The impacts arising from seasonal patterns were depicted. At the end of theoretical groundwork management strategies were given. Such theoretical foundation helped later to investigate the seasonality patterns, causes and effects and develop a strategy in Baku against seasonality. Having established conceptual framework, an empirical study has been undertaken in order to explore seasonality in Baku. The research area, Baku, Azerbaijan was introduced. In order to answer raised questions, a survey with both quantitative and qualitative questions was designed. The questionnaire was emailed to a total of 83 accommodations and resorts operating in Baku. However, 27 emails were bounced back and considered as non-delivery. 12 respondents filled in the questionnaire and returned. In spite of low response rate and reluctance of businesses, the answers provided important data which facilitated addressing the research problem. The survey revealed many facts which were not clear before this research. Based on survey results, the research questions were answered. It was found that autumn, spring as well as Novruz holiday was peak season for accommodations in Baku. Summer, winter and New Year break are low demand season. Most accommodations operating in Baku do not suspend their operations in off-season period. However, their income substantially falls. While majority of accommodations increases prices in high demand season, slightly less than half keep the prices the same. Pricing is also used in low demand season, this time through reductions. It must be noted that most respondents found price decrease practical for tackling with seasonal fluctuations. Though not expected, none of respondents dismiss employees during low seasons, as they do not hire temporary workers but keep stable personnel. The results also cleared that contrary to the underlying assumptions, seasonality does not affect the quality of se rvices in accommodations in Baku. It was discovered that the accommodations do not have any special offer or strategy regarding seasonality, apart from price decreases, which should be counted as discount rather seasonality measure. The main causes of seasonality in Azerbaijan were also established. Climate and weather patterns and also tough competition with other countries were found as crucial factors. A possible strategy against strategy should include price decrease from businesses, offering new services, finding new markets and also government support to tourism businesses, which can take place in different forms, such as tax cuts, loans, marketing activities abroad and etc. Furthermore, the government should diversify tourism services in Baku and all over the country, and especially develop winter tourism. Besides, seasonality can also be positively utilized for educational purposes, especially given the fact that most tourism personne l lack adequate training in Azerbaijan. The overall impression from survey is that Baku experiences a medium level of seasonality. There are many facts that justify this statement. First of all, the businesses did not unanimously consider seasonality as a problem for themselves. One fourth of the respondents either did not agree or were uncertain. Secondly, the overwhelming majority do not shut down during low seasons. Thirdly, employee dismissal, which is deemed as serious problem arising from seasonality does not take place in these accommodations. And finally, these businesses did not confirm the negative impact of seasonality on the quality of their services. All these arguments provide ground for the conclusion that Baku undergoes only an intermediate level seasonality. The reason is that Baku as a city has many advantages. It is a capital city, with the biggest international airport, and also business centre of the country. The city has a lot to offer to tourists due to its cultural and historical heritage as well as location. It can also be argued that the tourism potential of Baku has not been properly utilized. For example, though Baku can be an international sun and beach destination in summer, it is far from this. Even international tourists prefer travelling to Baku in spring and autumn in order to avoid high temperatures. The findings of this thesis can be used both by academic circles and also professionals. This study can serve as a source for researchers, especially for those who investigate seasonality or explore tourism in Azerbaijan. Seasonality is closely related with demand forecasting. By exploring the subject matter the businesses can also benefit from seasonality research in many ways. For example, the businesses can roughly calculate guest numbers based on demand forecasting, take steps to lower the imbalance between seasons. 5.2 Limitations of the study and further research The research has come with several limitations. First of all, the survey was carried out only among accommodations and resorts. It is obvious that the list of accommodations operating in Baku is not complete, though the one used is much more wide-ranging and broad in comparison with other sources. Albeit email was sent to 83 businesses, 27 of them immediately bounced back and the same happened with follow-up emails. Some of these emails were traced to other sources or the website of accommodation, if any. Moreover, while tabulating results, 56 accommodations were taken as whole surveyed population. Secondly, the results of survey among accommodations cannot be easily generalized to the whole tourism industry of Baku. Therefore, the findings of this research may not agree with the results of similar survey among other tourism businesses in Baku. Especially tour operators and travel agencies can bring about a totally different seasonality patterns, causes and effects. While the use of accommodations by local people is likely much lower than international visitors in Baku due to high prices and stay at relatives’ place, accommodations mainly provide information on inbound international tourists. However, tour operators and travel agencies operate different kind of businesses throughout country. Their services are widely used by outbound tourists, which in this case are local people. Since the seasonality patterns between inbound and outbound tourists can considerably differ, there is a probability that the seasonality patterns of accommodations can also significantly disagr ee with that of travel agencies, tour operators and other tourism businesses. Thirdly, the answers to the quantitative questions were of nominal and interval scale. However, these scales do not provide precision for making a decision (Colton and Covert, 2007, p. 80), such as determining the level of seasonality. Finally, although the respondents have in most cases shown their names and positions while returning the questionnaire, it is unknown that to what extent the answers are correct. Names or even positions do not tell much about the knowledge or capacity of the person who filled in the questionnaire. Therefore, a close look at the businesses such as face-to-face interview could provide more reliable data. Furthermore, since respondents usually show reluctance with regards to qualitative questions, quantitative questions with answer options were extensively utilized in questionnaire. However, in order to make in-depth analysis of the issue, qualitative methods should be in place. But comprehensive qualitative answers could be obtained through interviews instead of email attached questionnaire. Moreover, a higher response rate could be achieved in case of interviews. Apparently, a totally different seasonality pattern could be found out in other regions of the country. Hence, the results cannot be extended other locations. However, there is an utmost need for raising seasonality issue and addressing this concern in regions, even more than Baku. Other cities and tourism spots are likely to incur a higher seasonality level than Baku, as they attract less international tourists and focus on summer tourism activities. Further research should be done to exactly calculate the seasonality level in Azerbaijan, Baku and other regions, based on the monthly data provided from the State Statistics Committee, when available. Most researches on seasonality are quantitative and ascertain seasonality level by computing Guini coefficient, seasonality ratio and/or coefficient of seasonal variation. However, to date the tourism figures have been collected on a yearly basis rather than monthly in Azerbaijan. Therefore, exact calculation of seasonality is currently not possible. Furthermore, decomposition based on country of origin and other criteria should be performed, which will help to tailor a strategy in accordance with more detailed seasonality patterns. Subsequently, the effectiveness of these strategies can be examined in other studies. A research on forecasting tourism demand would also be very useful, particularly for businesses.

Actions like hunting styles or tribal initiations are judged to foolhardy because they are things that we as western civilized people do not do. Signs of Racism by Rajiv Kapur Signs of Racism offers a glimpse into what racism means today. Historically, racism was more prevalent, more obvious, but actually less disparaging to the victim than it is today. You see, SoR underlines the fundamental reasoning that quiet, subtle jabs with racist remarks are more pestilent. Kapur offers us a number of examples of what the signs of (subtle) racism are; many of which may not be obvious to readers. A racist feels no remorse or sympathy for the impact his racist actions have on the victimized. The overall aura of all the signs projects a racist of hatred and heartless sensibilities. SoR is not an impartial piece of literature. Kapur provides us with the views of a person afflicted by subtle racism. Consequently, we see the views of the victim and not the racist expressed. Conformity, whether good or bad for society, is never beneficial for the individual. In the late 40’s and 50’s people conformed or they were excluded. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a novel about non-conformists, the people who can’t be the same, and more who didn’t want to be identical. These are the insane ones. The sane ones are the authoritative figures who mentally, physically, and sexually abuse the patients, but they are also the people who decide what is right and healthy for the insane. Ken Kesey demonstrates that those in power become corrupted to argue that the fate of individuals in society should be determined by the persons themselves. Nurse Ratched is propelled by a desire to have complete control over the patients rather than the goal to save the patients and so exacerbates residents in the ward. Her need for control is exemplified by her battle with McMurphy, where her only aim is to quell the rebellion started by the â€Å"intolerable Ward Manipulator† (28). She conceals her true motives under the pretense of the goal of sanity, but her true purpose is to maintain control over all her patients. Doctor Spivy, an expert on mental health, does not receive a share of authority. Even in the group discussion the doctor’s comments are censored. For instance, when he comments on the prospect of a therapeutic carnival in the ward, Miss Ratched dismisses the possibility because it is a topic that â€Å"should be discussed in [the] staff meeting† (109). Nurse Ratched becomes inseparable with her delusion of complete control instead of with her occupational objectives. Her behavior with the pat ients on the ward indicates her feelings toward those in her care. She nods curtly in an â€Å"automatic gesture† only to preser... ...ht [herself] to be a God† (318). This sudden change of heart for both the doctor signifies self-empowerment. Difference between Aerobic and Anaerobic Training The main difference between aerobic and anaerobic training is that one uses oxygen whilst the other uses lactic acid. Aerobic training uses the oxygen in your muscles to produce the energy. To improve the amount of time which you are able to train at aerobic level you can do aerobic exercises, these are normally done at a moderate pace which your body can cope with. On the other hand anaerobic training is when the oxygen in your muscles run out so you rely on lactic acid to give you energy. The energy released does not last for long however is very powerful. The lactic acid causes your muscles to start aching though and can result in vomiting. Anaerobic respiration occurs when you work your body flat out and use all the energy available. Effect of Lactic Acid on the muscles Lactic acid is a waste product that is produced by your muscles when exercising. When the body has no oxygen left in the muscles it has to revert to anaerobic respiration which uses lactic acid to form energy. The lactic acid though makes your muscles ache and tire so is not very efficient. Difference in composition between inhaled and exhaled air The air that we breathe in and the air which we breathe out, have different compositions. The main difference is that in exhaled air there is more carbon dioxide compared with inhaled air where there is more oxygen. However in both types nitrogen is the highest percentage. The average is 70BPM (beats per minute), if you are unhealthy then your heart will have to work harder to pump blood all around your body which makes heart attacks more likely. Effects of Training In this section I will explain the effects on the body that I will expect to see when my Personal Exercise Plan has been completed over the 6 weeks. After completing my PEP my muscles should change in size and strength due to the exercises I have chosen. The muscles should grow larger with the exercise because the muscle fibres in the muscle will get fatter. Muscles are built from fibres which are either fast twitch or slow twitch. The strength of the muscle should also improve with exercise, by doing exercises with heavy weights and few reps the muscle strength will be increased. If I changed the exercise to many reps with a light weight then my muscles will gain more endurance. But as I am a goalkeeper then I will not concentrate as much on the endurance training. VC= Your Vital Capacity is the maximum amount of air that can be forcibly exhaled from your lungs. TV= Your Tidal Volume is all the air inhaled and exhaled in a minute. With training the respiratory system I will expect to see an increase in both of these factors. These increases are down to the lungs as training on my respiratory system will make them bigger so I will be able to inhale and exhale more air per breath. SV = Stroke Volume is the volume of blood pumped out of the heart during one contraction. Due to exercise this should increase as your heart will be stronger, therefore it will be able to pump a larger volume of blood around the body. CO = Cardiac Output is the amount of blood which is pumped from your heart each minute. This can be worked out by multiplying your stroke volume with your heart rate. This should also increase with exercise, by the same reasons as your stroke volume increases, as your heart is stronger. Recovery rate = Your recovery rate is the amount of time it takes you to fully recover after exercise. The fitter you are the shorter your recovery rate is. As I am a goalkeeper I will not be concentrating on this too much as it is not that important, although for an outfield player it is very important. SPORT Principles of training The main principles of training are shown in the acronym SPORT, by using these in my PEP I should end up with a successful training programme. The different sections are: S= Specificity Specificity means that I will train specific muscles used in my sport. This could include exercises and drills that relate to moves and skills I need in football as a goalkeeper. I will specify flexibility and muscular strength as these are the two components most vital for my sport. P= Progression Progression is when you gradually increase the amount or intensity of your exercise. This will improve your muscles as you are increasing the amount of work they do. An example of progression is starting week 1 with a 2 mile run once a week then progressing to a 3 mile run in week 2. O= Overload Fitness can only be improved by doing more than you usually do. This is called overloading. You must be careful though as if you do too much training you will end up injuring yourself. An example is doubling the distance of your runs or doubling the weight of your weights. R= Reversibility Reversibility occurs when you do not train . As your muscles are not being worked they will begin to weaken. All the improvements you have made from training will be reversed. For example if a sportsman becomes injured and is unable to train they will lose their work. So that reversibility does not affect me I will have 3 training sessions per week. T= Tedium Tedium is when you become bored with your training, this is because your training plan does not have much variety and you end up doing the same exercises. To avoid tedium I will include a variety of exercises so my PEP is not boring. FITT Principles When using overload I can use the FITT principles of training which are: F= Frequency Frequency is to do with how often I should train. I will include 3 training sessions a week in my personal exercise plan; this is a sufficient amount as I am not a professional sportsman who will probably train around 5 times a week. By doing 3 sessions a week I will also minimise the chance of reversibility as I will not have a large gap of time when I am not exercising. To make sure that my PEP is well set out I will not have to exercise in 2 consecutive days, for example I will train on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I= Intensity Intensity is based on how hard you push yourself whilst doing your training. It is measured by MHR (Maximum Heart Rate) for example a 3 mile run at 70% MHR. As I progress through the training programme the intensity of my exercises will increase. For the first week I may start working at 65% MHR which is not too hard however by the 6th week I will be working at 80% MHR which will be working my body very hard. T= Time Time is the length I will train for during each session of my PEP. It can vary from sprinting for 10 seconds to jogging for an hour. Time will be used in my exercise plan as I will increase the length of time spent on each exercise as I progress through the 6 weeks to show progression. T= Type There are different types of training, continuous training, fartlek training, circuit training, aerobic training and interval training, I will mainly use circuit, interval and aerobic training as these will be of most help to me. Fartlek and continuous training both contain a lot of running, which will not be useful to me as I play in goal. However I will use aerobic training as it will help me with my flexibility and agility, whilst interval and circuit training can use many exercises which I can choose myself. This will also lessen the chance of tedium occurring.

The Disciplined Order of Christ: Dealing with the Storms of Everyday Life

In 1945, led by Dr. Albert Edward Day, some laity and clergymen have met and resolved to live a life of discipline in accordance to the teachings and life of Jesus Christ (www. dochr. org). Thus, on that meeting, an organization was founded and named The Disciplined Order of Christ whose members aim to live a life of discipline in the midst of the harsh realities of the world. Basically, the Order aims to incorporate self-discipline into the life of a Christian laity or clergy man.Although living up to the teachings of Christ is not a novel idea, the Order focuses on Christian Discipline. The once a hundred-member organization became a nationwide movement and still aiming to reach more other people as well (www. dochr. org). All members of the order strive to acquire the eight virtues of the organization; namely, obedience, simplicity, humility, frugality, generosity, truthfulness, purity and charity (www. dochr. org). In addition to these virtues, there are the seven fundamental dis ciplines that members live by.These are discipline of private prayer, discipline of personal commitment, discipline of small group fellowship, discipline of active church participation, discipline of witness and service, discipline of stewardship, and discipline of ecumenical fellowship (www. dochr. org). The Order’s ideals and vision are founded on the book written by the founder, Dr. Day, entitled â€Å"Discipline and Discovery† (www. dochr. org). Most of the preaching in the organization and the tips on how to live a disciplined life are based on this book.Although the ideals are based on the book, the organization still uses the bible, particularly the New Testament, as their primary reference for spiritual maturity. Nevertheless, there is less citations from the bible than from the founder’s book which makes it somewhat a practical guide rather than a biblical guide to a rich Christian life. The organization holds annual regional retreats as well as nationa l retreats every five years (www. dochr. org).This is the only activity that is explicitly presented in the website besides different articles regarding bible study guides and the organization’s basic doctrines. Although the Order also conducts small group fellowships, there were no presentations or exhibits regarding the retreats and fellowships. Such a defect is thus quite questionable. The organization wishes to impart disciplines of small group fellowship and active church participation and yet, there are no evidences of such events on the website. It would have been better if the organization presented places and schedules of fellowships.Furthermore, the Order only seems to offer suggestions and guidelines on how to live a self-disciplined life in the local church where the member is affiliated. One interesting feature, however, is that of the organization’s â€Å"Prayer Garden†. In the Prayer Garden, individuals can post their prayer requests and praise no tes while they can also view other’s prayer requests and join in praying for the many needs of the members of the organization (www. dochr. org). Such a connection of the different members through praying for one another is theologically noteworthy and yet original in its modern approach.The basic virtues that the order tries to emulate are actually all theologically based on the New Testament. And the disciplines are essentially practical means to attain such virtues. The practical approach of the organization’s ideals although not much proven by their own testimonial experiences is a helpful way for one’s spiritual growth. Its day-by-day advices and simplicity gives it an appealing way of living the life of Christ in the modern yet draining society people are currently dwelling in.Theologically, the ideals of the Order are theoretically and biblically acceptable. The practical guide it provides that fits the modern way of living in the world is very much helpf ul and charismatic. Upon reading on the basics of the organization, one can also find that the spiritual formation that the order offers to every individual is suitable for everyone. The very fact that self-discipline and discipline in general is the center of their ministry makes the order a viable and useful new way of living a life like that of the life Christ lived. Kayem Foods, Inc

Executive Summary Problem/Issues Matt Monkiewicz, director of marketing for Kayem Foods, Inc. , is challenged with a decision pertaining to a small but fast growing product, Al Fresco chicken sausage. The product has become a brand leader in its market niche, and means on how to promote the product is in question. A â€Å"buzz† marketing campaign was recently used, and while the company did increase in sales, there is no way to directly calculate the effect the campaign had on the product. Mr. Monkiewicz would like to continue to use the â€Å"buzz† marketing approach, but supermarket executives and food distributers are unwilling to increase buying and support for the brand. They do not believe that this small marketing campaign is solid enough to increase buyer recognition and increase sales. Customers have remarked that the product is hard to find in stores, and some cannot find it entirely and have to visit other locations. Analysis The sausage market, while growing, has several competitors who dominate the market. Al Fresco chicken sausage has become the number one brand in its market niche, but buyer power is high due to the low price and similarity of the product. Kayem Foods Inc has primarily sold through supermarkets and other retail food stores in the Northeast. In the last two years, it had made a concerted effort to obtain distribution in the Midwest and the Southeast. Kayem has two different communication needs. First, they need to convince retailers that their product has a stable top of the market demand, and that current pricing creates a large profit potential. This objective can be achieved by devoting money to print advertisements in food magazines, and by allocating money to trade advertisements which depict the success the company has currently seen with the Al Fresco product Monkiewicz used Al Fresco’s high recent sales increases to secure an $185,000 advertising budget for FY 2006. His perceived marketing options include spending $75-72,000 on another Buzz campaign, which supermarket executives do not believe is an adequate marketing campaign for the product. Another possibility is running trade advertisements to entice more retailers to sell Fresco’s chicken sausage (minimum cost of $80,000). The company has evaluated the possibility running no less than 2 or 3 print ads in specialty food magazines; this would be a cheap way to get circulation to the target market. A final alternative would distribute consumer price-off coupons at a minimum cost of $90,000. On top of the advertising venues chosen, an informative website that provided, product history, flavors, recipes, and product locations would be beneficial Recommendations Kayem Foods, Inc. should use the budgeted $185,000 promotional dollars to run a series of â€Å"trade advertisements† that would cost $80,000. They should also run two ads in both Food and Wine and Cooking Light food specialty magazines which would cost $39,765 and $57,840 and would be seen by 5. 4 million people. They should also launch an informational website that would help build product awareness. Use of these three advertising avenues helps resolve the problems the Al Fresco brand currently faces; a new, largely unknown brand to consumers, supermarket managers have been reluctant to offer the brand considerable, if any shelf space due to doubts of stable demand. This is a unique technique for using a word-of-mouth advertising venue. Monkiewicz did not initially have a substantial marketing budget adequate enough to make a substantial impact using traditional media. â€Å"Buzz† marketing, gave him means to promote the rand on a small budget but still have an impact on his target market. According to ACNielsen, Al Fresco had become the number one-selling branded chicken sausage in the United States by late July 2004. However, it was not clear whether this was due to the buzz campaign or to other marketing activities implemented by the firm. Prior to the campaign, the brand had developed substantial m omentum with a minimum of advertising support. Also, during the campaign period the sales force had made a special effort and offered special discounts and allowances to obtain new distribution. The sales increase by the brand was very impressive, but it was not clear how much more growth Kayem could expect from this rather unusual marketing tactic. Monkiewicz explained that it would be a challenge to sustain the growth and increase market share with such a limited marketing budget. Even with substantial growth of the product, the company has continued problems with supermarket executives and food distributers still unwilling to increase buying and support for the brand. They do not believe that this small marketing campaign is solid enough to increase buyer recognition and increase sales. This placed a major dilemma for Kayem Foods, and Al Fresco. They would like to continue to use the â€Å"buzz† marketing approach, but there is no way to justify and link the increase in sales with the campaign. The big issue now is getting supermarket executives and distributers to be confident with the product to increase shelf space and brand recognition. This is very important because seventy-two percent of the BzzAgents reported that they had had difficulty finding the product in the supermarket. This meant that they had to either ask the store manager for the product or go to a different store. Twenty-three percent were never able to find the product. Monkiewicz has two weeks to decide how to implement an upcoming market strategy for the product. He would like to implement another â€Å"buzz† marketing campaign in 2005, but since this strategy is not wielded well by supermarket executives, he has to look at other venues. Some alternatives he could look to with the advertising budget include; limited magazine advertising, consumer coupons, or more point-of-purchase material. Monkiewicz has also considered an advertising campaign in supermarket trade magazines aimed at retail food buyers and merchandising executives. Situation Analysis 5 Forces Upon reviewing the five forces model for Al Fresco, it is noted that competition is pretty high in the industry. Total category sales for the chicken sausage segment were about $75 million per year. The market is growing at about 12 percent a year. This is a growing market, with a few large brands, and rivalry is high. Al Fresco possesses a small 5. 3 percent of the market in the New England area. Because the chicken sausage category is small, it is difficult to obtain many specifics about competition. Buyer power is moderate to high, due to the fact of low switching cost and ease of access to the product. Buyers can be brand loyal, which is a benefit to some companies in the industry. Tying in with the high buyer power is a high power of substitutes. Consumers on average spend $16. 95 annually per year in the target market, when compared to the food industry is not very much. The sausage market can be seasonal, with price promotions and coupon discounts during these periods can be very high. This can lead to shelf space being a big factor, because if a consumer cannot find their desired product, they can easily purchase a similar product for a similar price. Barrier to entry is low in the market due to the fact of establishing a high quality product at a reasonable price with good shelf space and advertising. Supplier power is also low due to the fact that the low priced products in the industry are located in all major grocery stores. S. W. O. T. Strengths In 1999 Kayem introduced the Al Fresco brand. The firm believed if they could have a well-recognized â€Å"demand brand,† it could potentially obtain higher prices and better margins and open doors in new markets. By late July 2004, Al Fresco had become the number one-selling branded chicken sausage in the United States. The product was offered with high quality, healthy attributes, freshness, and distinctive flavors. Al Fresco chicken sausage has 75 percent less fat than traditional pork sausage and is available in seven flavors. Sales have increased significantly for Al Fresco chicken sausage. In September of 2003 they posted sales of $197,000 and in October of 2004 that number rose to $575,000. Weaknesses Though Al Fresco has been prosperous in recent years, Kayem’s profit margins have been eroding. Gross margin for the company had been declining for several years due to supermarkets gaining â€Å"power† through consolidation and demands for greater discounts and promotional allowances from suppliers. With this, Al Fresco has been asked for more price- oriented promotions. This could be a possible benefit for the company, but would cost about $90,000 to be effective. The target market for Al Fresco chicken sausage is the 25- to 54-year-old woman who was health conscious. This is a good niche market, but it makes Al Fresco cater to this niche instead of advertising to an entire population. Opportunities Kayem Foods Inc has primarily sold through supermarkets and other retail food stores in the Northeast. In the last two years, it had made a concerted effort to obtain distribution in the Midwest and the Southeast. This market expansion could lead to vast growth for the company if it takes hold of market share in these regions. Threats Al Fresco has faced a few problems along the way. During their â€Å"buzz† marketing campaign, seventy-two percent of the agents reported that they had had difficulty finding the product, while twenty-three percent were never able to find the product. This is unacceptable in the marketplace and Al Fresco must convince the supermarkets to carry the product, and give it adequate shelf space. Though Monkiewicz liked the â€Å"buzz† campaign, it was hard to track and justify just how effective an advertising campaign it was. This is threatening, because supermarket executives are timid to demand the product if this is the only kind of advertising the company partakes in. Sausage Market Consumers of sausage products spanned all national regions and income levels. Accordingly, the sausage products where used for both main entree’s and complements to other center-plate dishes for all three main meals of a day. Retail sales of all sausages tallied $2. billion in 2003. This total includes Al Fresco’s product segment, specialty sausage, which had a 20%, or $4. 8 million in sales, and was currently the fastest growing segment. Increased sales were linked with a shift in consumer preference for differentiated products that added a variety to their menus, or were lower in fat content. Concurrently, Al Fresco’s chicken sausage was part of a market segment of low-fat/lean sausages which made up 19% of all sausage sales. Communication strategy Kayem has two different communication needs. First, they need to convince etailers that their product has a stable top of the market demand, and that current pricing creates a large profit potential. This objective can be achieved by devoting money to print advertisements in food magazines, and by allocating money to trade advertisements which depict the success the company has currently seen with the Al Fresco product. Ads in food magazines will also help achieve the second communication goal, stimulating primary demand in consumers, by introducing them to not only a new product segment, but the most popular product in that market. Supermarket executives have recommended that Kayem advertise in specialty food magazines. Through this type of method consumers should be encouraged to deepen brand loyalty. Due to the niche market of chicken sausage, consumers may not need a sales promotion as often as in larger, saturated market segments. Running advertisements in specialty magazines allows a company to easily target desired geographic and demographic segments. Magazine ads are thought to have both high credibility and prestige. Plus, this method of marketing has a longer life span than many other mediums (TV, radio, telephone). In essence, though Kayem would be out the entire expense of running advertisements in the current fiscal year, sales spurred by these investments may be realized in months or even years to come. Out of the possible types of advertising goals, the persuasive approach is most in line with both Kayem’s marketing goals and the potential customers reading cuisine magazines. The company can create liking, preference, and conviction for readers to buy their sausage by highlighting its flavor, freshness, and more importantly healthy composition in comparison to other sausage alternatives. They currently have very low brand awareness which could be alleviated with vast advertising campaigns. This method also works best when consumers are processing the advertisement in a detailed, analytical mode. This description fully fits the reader of a food magazine who is seeking new recipes and/or foods. Point-of-purchase (P-O-P) communication is not the most effective use of Kayem’s promotional money at this time. The company’s current dilemma involves convincing more retailers to buy/stock their item on shelves. This problem should be tackled before the same retailers are asked about in-store promotions. Analysis of Alternatives Monkiewicz used Al Fresco’s high recent sales increases to secure an $185,000 advertising budget for FY 2006. His perceived marketing options include spending $75-72,000 on another Buzz campaign, running trade advertisements to entice more retailers to sell Fresco’s chicken sausage (minimum cost of $80,000), running no less than 2 or 3 print ads in specialty food magazines, and distributing consumer price-off coupons at a minimum cost of $90,000. Monkiewicz must decide if BzzAgent’s previous campaign generated enough sales to warrant spending an additional $75,000 on a second campaign in FY 2006. Due to other promotional activities that occurred simultaneously with the first campaign he is unable to determine how many incremental sales the program created. Kayem’s own sales representatives claimed that they were unable to get additional placements or expanded shelf space due to the buzz campaign alone. The cost per â€Å"buzz† (conversation/ activity involving Al Fresco) was calculated to be almost $4. 24. The new campaign would have a unit breakeven of 62,500 packages. While this advertising approach does disseminate relevant literature there remains no clear way to track generated sales. Growing negative market sentiments of BzzAgent’s techniques may also hurt the image of the company if consumers become aware that they use this form of advertising. Another drawback is the fact that Kayem must rely on unpaid employees of another firm to handle their promotions. A second option costing at least $80,000, involves Kayem running a series of â€Å"trade advertisements† directed at convincing retailers that their chicken sausage is in high demand and can be sold with high profit margins. This alternative has a unit breakeven of 66,667 units. Although past efforts have lacked the intended success, Kayem must address the limited availability of their product. Producing the leading brand of a product in a market segment which has quickly expanded gives them better financial support when approaching retailers than before. The option of distributing consumer price-off coupons was mentioned by both Al Fresco’s sales force and certain supermarket managers. The supermarket managers would still receive full retail selling price, but the Kayem would be cutting their profit margin on each package bought with a coupon. The unit breakeven of this promotion would be 75,000 packages. The product is competitively priced with other chicken sausage products according to a survey of the Boston-area supermarkets. Another draw-back to offering price reductions is in conflicts with Kayem’s desire to keep margins high to off-set their lower profit lines. A final promotional route Kayem could choose involves running advertisements in specialty food magazines. This approach covers a large geographic area, connects to the targeted demographic profile, and has a longer life than most of media avenues. Various costs for ads covering a full, half, or quarter of a page for three different magazines is accompanied by number of circulations in the appendix. Kayem’s managers believe that no fewer than 2 or 3 ads would be needed to have any positive effect on sales. There are many new opportunities opening in the advertising venue for Al Fresco due to the increased budget. Two big issues the company faces are product awareness, and knowledge of where the product is available for purchase. With the Internet becoming more and more common place, a simple website would be a possible alternative for Al Fresco. The site would offer history of the product, types of product, recipes to go with the sausage, and locations were the sausage may be purchased. Any advertising that is done; the name of the website could be placed on the advertisement. It is assumed that a start up fee cost for a simple informative website would be $4,000 and yearly upkeep would be an additional $3,000. Recommendations/Implementation Kayem Foods, Inc. should use the budgeted 185,000 promotional dollars to run a series of â€Å"trade advertisements†, 2 ads in both Food and Wine and Cooking Light food specialty magazines, and launch an informative website. Use of these three advertising avenues helps resolve the problems the Al Fresco brand currently faces; a new, largely unknown brand to consumers, supermarket managers have been reluctant to offer the brand considerable, if any shelf space due to doubts of stable demand. Due to budget constraints, the placement of two 1/4 four-color advertisements in both food specialty magazines is the cheapest way to increase broad brand awareness in the target market. An estimated 5. 2 million ads will be circulated at an estimated cost of $18. 7 per 1,000 viewers. This is by far a cheaper avenue to reach potential customers than another â€Å"buzz† campaign (appendix). The ads should highlight the freshness and natural, healthy composition of Al Fresco’s chicken sausage, and should include the statements, â€Å"#1 Selling, Healthy, All-Natural Choice† and â€Å"Ask for It at Your Local Supermarket†. Thes e advertisements will not only increase selective demand, an approach that attempts to highlight a specific brand’s competitive advantage in the face of many substitutions, but will also spur a deepening in brand loyalty. By using a persuasive advertising approach these placements will lead to higher preference, liking, and conviction of Al Fresco’s chicken sausage flavors by consumers because they will be processing the ads in a detailed, analytical mode. Placing these ads in food magazines gives Kayem the opportunity to place their product in the minds of consumers actively searching for new products/ recipes, thus initiating new sales from experimenting, health conscience, or even allergenic consumers. Secondly, supermarket executives have said such an advertisement campaign is needed to create the stable demand required to prompt initial purchases and shelving of Al Fresco’s chicken sausage. Increasing the pressure on retailers to adopt and sell Al Fresco’s products can be supplemented by running a series of â€Å"trade advertisements†. These ads will highlight the specialty and low-fat sausage market segment’s growing sales numbers, and Al Fresco’s personal commitment to faithfully market their products. High profit margins and placement at the top of the segment market are also key points that must be received by retailing executives. As mentioned by Monkiewicz, $80,000 will be needed to successfully implement this advertising campaign. The remaining budget dollars will be used to launch and maintain an informational website specifically aimed at providing product awareness to customers. In today’s day and age, the internet is becoming more resourceful. With Al Fresco’s increased advertising over the next year, they can add they website URL to the ads for free publicity to the website. The website would be simple, offering product history, flavors and recipes, and locations were the product is available.
